Not affiliated with the National Park Service
National Historical Register is an independent, privately run guide. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of the National Park Service, the US Department of the Interior, the National Register of Historic Places, or any State Historic Preservation Office.
What that means in practice
- We cannot list, delist or change the status of any property. Listing is done by the Keeper of the National Register at the National Park Service, on nominations that go through your State Historic Preservation Office.
- We sell no registrations, certificates or "official" plaques. There is no official National Register plaque; see the plaque guide. Any vendor we mention is a third party and is labelled as such.
- We do not hold the official record. For legal or tax purposes use the NPS database and your SHPO.
- We use no government seals, arrowheads or .gov styling, and our name is a brand for an independent guide, not a claim to be the Register.
