It is also significant for its link to early 20th-century transportation in the region, having first carried NYS Route 73 before being moved about 1932 for logging access.","narrative":"Spanning the East Branch of the AuSable River at St. Hubert's, this 90-foot metal Warren pony truss bridge was built around 1900 by an unknown maker. It originally carried NYS Route 73 between Keene and Keene Valley. When that road was improved ahead of the 1932 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, the bridge was replaced and re-erected at its present site to give logging access on Snow and Wolfjaw mountains. Its riveted channels, angle-iron members, eye bars, lattice railings and wood deck survive largely as built, and the new setting resembles the old one. Logging has ended, and the bridge now serves walkers heading to nearby hiking trails. It was listed for its representation of light, simple rural iron bridge design of the pre-automobile period and for its place in early 20th-century regional transportation history. It belongs to a group of historic bridges in the AuSable River valley.","period_of_significance":"c.1900-1948","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Warren pony truss bridge","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Now used only as a pedestrian bridge giving access to hiking trails; no alterations are known.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:49.987216-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/99001325.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312902","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/essex-county/slater-bridge-99001325/"}
