It is also tied to the commercial history of Davis Square and is a survival of the city's pre-World War II development. It meets Criteria A and C at the state and local levels.","narrative":"Set at the edge of a small park where Summer and Elm Streets meet, this 1941 diner was prefabricated by the Worcester Lunch Car Company and still serves food in Somerville's Davis Square area. It has a steel frame, black porcelain enamel panels, a monitor roof with a band of clerestory windows, and canted end walls that mark it as a semi-streamliner, a more conservative alternative to the curved streamliner diners of the late 1930s. Inside are a full counter, wood booths, blue tile, and a patterned tile floor. Its first owner, Charles Peveloris, named it after the sled in Citizen Kane. A hamburger restaurant had occupied the site before it. The diner was listed for being one of only seven semi-streamliners known to survive, for its place in the Davis Square business district, and for its largely intact design, materials, and setting. A four-year restoration reversed later alterations.","period_of_significance":"1941-1949","architect_builder":"Worcester Lunch Car Company","architectural_style":"Other: Semi-Streamliner Diner","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still operating as a restaurant; a multi-year restoration reopened the diner in 1995 and exterior restoration was ongoing at the time of the form.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.59604-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/49/7913/63791349/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/99001125.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001125/a90a10a8be-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001125/a90a10a8be-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Vistawhite","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rosebud_Diner.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Vistawhite</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rosebud_Diner.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791349","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosebud_(diner)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7761571"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/rosebud-the-99001125/"}
