It is also tied to three generations of the Casey family running a lunch cart or diner in Natick. Its moves in 1927 and 1977 are described as typical of diners and as not harming its integrity.","narrative":"Casey's Diner is a small yellow lunch car at 36 South Avenue in downtown Natick, Massachusetts. Built in 1922 by the Worcester Lunch Car Company, it is a ten-stool model, nine bays wide, with a wood frame, a metal barrel roof and galvanized steel panels. Original features include the quartered oak counter, brass foot rest, ten oak stools, a wood-paneled barrel ceiling and a hexagonal tile floor. A Colonial Revival entry porch dates to the 1920s. Frederick Casey bought the car in 1927, after it had served as Mulligan's Diner in Framingham, and placed it on Washington Street. It was towed to its present lot in 1977, and a rear concrete block addition dates from that move. The diner is considered significant as one of the oldest operating diners in Massachusetts, as a well-preserved early Worcester product, and for its link to three generations of the Casey family. The painter John Baeder also depicted it in 1974.","period_of_significance":"1922-1949","architect_builder":"Worcester Lunch Car Company","architectural_style":"Other: Lunch Wagon/Lunch Cart","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still operating as a diner, run by a third generation of the Casey family; relocated in 1977 and retains original entries, porch and interior features.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:05.004528-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/43/7913/63791343/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/99001122.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001122/90c62efa89-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001122/90c62efa89-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Totrcs","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caseys_Diner.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Totrcs</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caseys_Diner.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791343","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey%27s_Diner","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5048432"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/caseys-diner-99001122/"}
