It is also significant in industry, representing the rise of Atlanta's commercial laundry business in the 1920s and the success of Atlanta Laundries, Inc.","narrative":"Built in 1928-1929 at 650 Glen Iris Drive in Atlanta's Midtown area, this former steam laundry was designed by architect Isaac Moscowitz, who specialized in industrial buildings. Its concrete frame and brick walls enclose an open plan, while the street and side facades carry two-story brick pilasters with mousetooth brickwork, polychromatic terra-cotta capitals, basket-weave panels and a white-painted cast concrete entrance scored to resemble stone. The building was listed for its architecture, as one of Atlanta's best small-scale Art Deco designs, and for its role in industry. Atlanta Laundries, Inc. operated it as Troy-Peerless Laundry, serving Midtown hotels and apartments and the suburb of Druid Hills as the city's laundry trade expanded. Later occupants included other laundries and, from the late 1960s, a Sears warehouse. A rehabilitation completed in the 1990s converted the interior into loft apartments of roughly 600 to 1,000 square feet, keeping exposed brick, concrete framing and fire doors.","period_of_significance":"1928-1937","architect_builder":"Moscowitz, Isaac, architect (builder listed in the permit as The Flagler Co.)","architectural_style":"Modern Movement: Art Deco","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Rehabilitated into loft apartments, certified under the Tax Incentives Program on December 17, 1997; current function is multiple dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.871369-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/99001100.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001100/e2ac340e03-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99001100/e2ac340e03-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Brogers784","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Troy_Peerless_Laundry_Building_-_March_2013.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Brogers784</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Troy_Peerless_Laundry_Building_-_March_2013.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208370","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134355680"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/fulton-county/troy-peerless-laundry-building-99001100/"}
