It is one of seventy-two stone or brick houses identified in Rochester built before 1944. It also retains a high degree of architectural integrity despite a 1930s restoration.","narrative":"Built around 1732 on Winfield Road in the Kyserike hamlet of Rochester, Ulster County, this fieldstone house is a one-and-one-half-story dwelling with a linear plan. The main block has a central cross-gable, two flanking gabled dormers, and a central entry with sidelights and a gabled porch on Doric columns. Three smaller frame additions step down the slope to the west. Inside, a Georgian center-hall plan holds seven rooms in the stone section, with original wide floor planks, hewn beams, early hardware, two Dutch doors and varied moldings. An extensive restoration in the 1930s did not erase the building's historic character. The house represents the linear stone dwelling that dominated Ulster County building from the late seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth century; it is one of seventy-two stone or brick houses identified in Rochester built before 1944. The land was part of the Queen Anne Land Grant of 1713 and stayed in the Winfield family until the mid-twentieth century. John Davis Winfield served as town supervisor and county assemblyman.","period_of_significance":"ca.1732-ca.1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial/Dutch Colonial","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; retains a high degree of architectural integrity despite an extensive restoration in the 1930s.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:49.985543-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/99000993.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315194","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winfield_Corners_Stone_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8024994"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/ulster-county/winfield-corners-stone-house-99000993/"}
