Built in 1916 of concrete faced with brick, it now sits on a three-acre parcel with a former ice house.","why_significant":"The house is significant in architecture and in community planning and development as an outstanding example of the Roslyn Harbor Estates property type, 1830-1930. It is an ambitious Jacobethan design with few alterations, built entirely of concrete, and reflects the early 20th century 'Stockbroker Tudor' trend and the village's estate development.","narrative":"Greenridge is a Jacobethan Revival residence at 875 Bryant Avenue in Roslyn Harbor, built in 1916 for Arthur Williams, a longtime New York Edison executive. Originally part of a 14-acre estate, it now occupies three acres screened by mature landscaping. The 2-1/2 story house has concrete floors, walls and beams, faced with red brick in Flemish bond and topped by steeply pitched Vermont slate roofs. Inside are German ceramic tile floors, carved stone fireplaces, oak paneling, and a Great Hall with hewn rafters, heraldic leaded glass and a musician's gallery. A brick ice house survives as an outbuilding. The architect was Harold Victor Hartman, known only by name from a 1921 slate company advertisement. Williams sold the property in 1920. The house is valued as an outstanding example of the Roslyn Harbor estates of 1830-1930, reflecting the early twentieth-century taste for grand Tudor-style houses within commuting distance of major cities.","period_of_significance":"1916","architect_builder":"Hartman, Harold Victor (architect); built by Arthur Williams","architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century Revivals / Jacobethan Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling; the exterior and interior are largely intact, though the original windows were replaced with mahogany thermopane casements and the baths and kitchens were updated.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.473075-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/99000875.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99000875/3eaccb365f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99000875/3eaccb365f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Antony-22","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Greenridge-Arthur_Williams_House_2016.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Antony-22</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Greenridge-Arthur_Williams_House_2016.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313739","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenridge-Arthur_Williams_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5604410"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/nassau-county/greenridge-arthur-williams-house-99000875/"}
