The church and chapel both have monumental pedimented porticos with fluted Doric columns and retain a high degree of integrity. Both remain important local landmarks.","narrative":"Set on Main Street in the historic core of Trumansburg, this property combines a brick church and a small wood chapel hall, both completed around 1850 in the Greek Revival style. The church is a temple-front building with a monumental pedimented portico carried on five fluted Doric columns, topped by a bell tower with a four-faced clock installed in 1850. The chapel hall, also called the Session House, is a small-scale replica with four Doric columns and was built using timber from the congregation's earlier frame church, which was taken down in 1849. Interior changes came in 1868 and 1881, including the paired round-arched stained-glass windows on the sides, while the open sanctuary and much original trim survive. The builder, Mr. Grant, was paid $8,000 plus the old building, and total costs reached $12,260. The property is recognized for its architecture and its remarkably intact design, materials and craftsmanship, and it remains a local landmark.","period_of_significance":"1849/50 - 1881","architect_builder":"Builder Mr. Grant (contractor); architect unknown","architectural_style":"Mid 19th Century: Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a church; the form lists the current function as religion (church).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.822262-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/99000669.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99000669/70fff84ad1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/99000669/70fff84ad1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr from Albany, NY, United States","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:First_Presbyterian_Church_of_Ulysses_Mar_09.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr from Albany, NY, United States</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:First_Presbyterian_Church_of_Ulysses_Mar_09.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322497","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Presbyterian_Church_of_Ulysses","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5453711"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/tompkins-county/first-presbyterian-church-of-ulysses-99000669/"}
