It is described as one of the finest residences in Lockport and an important local landmark. It also recalls the late nineteenth-century development of the community.","narrative":"Built around 1891-1892 at 175 Locust Street in Lockport, this brick Queen Anne house was planned by Thomas Oliver, a cider and brass bed manufacturer who served as the city's mayor. It rises two and one-half stories above a raised stone foundation, with a slate-covered hipped roof, cross gables, Medina sandstone belt courses, a wraparound porch and Eastlake spindlework. The former corner tower was reduced in 1966 because of deterioration. Inside, the original room layout survives, including pocket doors, oak wainscoting, parquet floors, carved fireplace mantels, a built-in dining room sideboard and a large stained-glass stair window. Later owners included an attorney, then a group of women who ran a retirement home from 1924, and since 1966 a Lutheran church that uses it as a parish house and church school. The house was listed for its architecture, as an intact local example of the Queen Anne style and one of Lockport's finest residences.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1891-1892","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Owned by a church since 1966 and used as a parish house and church school; the former tower lost its third story and conical roof in 1966.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.308711-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/98001390.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/98001390/724edbbb4b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/98001390/724edbbb4b-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_Oliver_House_Jun_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog (talk)</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_Oliver_House_Jun_09.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320135","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Oliver_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7792885"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/niagara-county/oliver-thomas-house-98001390/"}
