It also played a role in the village's development as a tavern, post office location, bank and temporary library before becoming a residence.","narrative":"Built about 1827 on Main Street in Caledonia, Livingston County, this two-and-a-half-story house is made of cut stone blocks with smooth-faced quoins, set on a fieldstone foundation beneath a side-gabled roof with stepped parapet walls and paired brick chimneys. The five-bay front has twelve-over-one wood windows and a Federal-style center doorway with sidelights, fluted pilasters and an elliptical fanlight. Inside, a center hall holds the original staircase, and the first floor retains a Federal mantel and a hearth with a beehive bake oven. The second floor keeps the layout from its years as a tavern, including an L-shaped ballroom. By the 1830s the building was a tavern serving travelers on the Caledonia and Scottsville horse railroad and housed the post office. Banks and the village library used it between 1885 and 1900. It has been a residence since 1920, and it is valued as a rare, highly intact Federal stone building in the village.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1827","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling, with a restaurant also listed as a current function; a later rear addition connects it to the adjacent Keith Press building.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.900299-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/98001114.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/98001114/8f4c13434b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/98001114/8f4c13434b-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clark-Keith_House_Aug_10.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog (talk)</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clark-Keith_House_Aug_10.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318624","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark%E2%80%93Keith_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5127125"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/clark-keith-house-98001114/"}
