It is also tied to Grange activities that improved local agriculture and served as a social, political, educational and cultural center for farm families (Criterion A).","narrative":"Built in 1923 on the east side of Route 64 in the crossroads hamlet of Bristol Springs, this large, gable-roofed frame building was constructed for the local branch of the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry. It has a fieldstone foundation, narrow clapboard siding, exaggerated cornice returns and symmetrical windows. Inside, a foyer with its original ticket booth leads to a dining and community room, while the upstairs holds an auditorium with its original stage and beaded oak wainscoting. Grange members built most of it themselves, spending about $500 on lumber and materials against an estimated total cost of $7,000. The hall was listed as a well-preserved example of the Grange hall type and for its role as a center of farm-family social, educational and cultural life. After the Grange became inactive and the building deteriorated, a community group took on its repair. It now serves as a cultural center with film showings and youth drama and arts programs.","period_of_significance":"1923","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Early Twentieth Century: vernacular","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Grange inactive for nearly twenty years and the hall had fallen into disrepair; a community group salvaged it and it now houses the Bristol Springs Cultural Center, serving as a community center.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.334331-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97001528.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320542","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Bristol_Grange_Hall_1107","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7566413"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/ontario-county/south-bristol-grange-hall-1107-97001528/"}
