It is also significant under Criterion A for its link to early twentieth-century commercial development in Mount Morris and to regional and national trends in popular entertainment.","narrative":"Built in 1938-1939 at 102 Main Street in downtown Mount Morris, the New Family Theater is an Art Deco movie house created by remodeling the older Family Theater and adding a new auditorium and stage behind it. The street front is faced in cream ceramic tile with orange and green accents, a stepped parapet, and a V-shaped marquee topped with red neon lettering. Inside, an outer lobby and inner lobby lead to a horseshoe-shaped auditorium seating about 700, finished in bands of mauve, rose and cream separated by brass strips, with chrome light fixtures and a ceiling painted as a sky. Michael De Angelis was the architect, and the theater was part of the family-owned Martina Circuit, which ran eleven theaters in western New York. It was recognized as an outstanding, well-preserved example of Art Deco design and for its place in the village's commercial and entertainment history. The building has been vacant since the early 1980s and awaits restoration.","period_of_significance":"1938 - 1939","architect_builder":"Architect: Michael De Angelis","architectural_style":"Art Deco","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Owned by the Village of Mount Morris and vacant since the early 1980s; closed pending restoration, unheated and without electricity, with cracked and fallen plaster inside.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.87849-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000846.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000846/7f20eef4b0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000846/7f20eef4b0-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog at en.wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:New_Family_Theater_Oct_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog at en.wikipedia</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:New_Family_Theater_Oct_09.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318680","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Family_Theater","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7007555"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/new-family-theater-97000846/"}
