It centers on a c.1890 Folk Victorian main house with a cluster of late-19th- and early-20th-century outbuildings.","why_significant":"The farm is significant in agriculture as an exceptionally well-preserved complex showing the variety of farming in Middle Georgia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It retains an unusually large number of surviving outbuildings. The main house is also significant in architecture as a representative example of the Folk Victorian style.","narrative":"Westbrook-Hubert Farm is a 54-acre farm near Meriwether in Baldwin County, Georgia, built around a one-story Folk Victorian house dating to about 1890. Behind the house sit a doctor's office, cook's house, carriage house, barn, chicken houses, privy and two wells, while a farm manager's house and tenant house stand nearer the fields. The land was once part of a much larger holding of 1,050 acres. Richard Nixon Westbrook bought it in 1888, and he and his heirs built the main house and most surviving outbuildings. Cotton was the principal crop. In 1910 Dr. Terrell E. Hubert bought the southern half, leased land to tenants and practiced medicine from an office on the property until 1945. Few Georgia farms of the period keep more than five outbuildings, yet this one preserves many, because farming continued until mid-century. The house also shows applied Eastlake porch details on a traditional form, and it kept a high level of integrity, with its few alterations made before 1946.","period_of_significance":"c.1890 - 1946","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Other: Folk Victorian style","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Current functions listed include single dwelling, agricultural outbuildings, agricultural fields and a horticultural facility; the property includes wooded areas where timber is cultivated and pasture for horses and chickens.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.33841-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/97000558.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206877","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141700334"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/baldwin-county/westbrook-hubert-farm-97000558/"}
