It replaced an earlier station on the Adirondack line and served as the connecting point for stage lines carrying tourists to Adirondack resort areas. It is also a highly intact example of an early 20th century Prairie-inspired rural station.","narrative":"Riverside Train Station is a long, low brick and concrete depot on the Hudson River in Riparius, in the town of Johnsburg, Warren County. The Delaware & Hudson Railroad built it in 1913 to replace an earlier station from the Adirondack line. The rectangular one-story building has a low hip roof with broad eaves, exposed rafters and covered platforms on each end. The baggage room was added between 1915 and 1924. Inside, the original floor plan survives, including the waiting room with oak benches, the ticket office with wainscoting, and the original cash drawer. The station was significant because Riverside was the busiest stop on the line from Saratoga Springs to North Creek, where stagecoaches met trains to carry tourists to nearby resort areas. Passenger service ended in 1956, seasonal service in 1959, and freight in 1989. The railroad sold the station in 1964. Restoration began after a 1995 sale, and the building remains largely unaltered since construction.","period_of_significance":"1913 - 1947","architect_builder":"Delaware & Hudson Railroad","architectural_style":"Early 20th Century / Prairie School","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Abandoned by the railroad in 1964 and sold into private ownership; sold again in 1995, after which restoration began.
