It is the only brick Italianate house in Marshall with an asymmetrical plan and the only one with cast iron window hoods, and it has avoided exterior modernization with synthetic materials. It has kept its historic integrity and remains almost unchanged for about 100 years.","narrative":"Built around 1862 to 1864 on a rise at the north edge of early Marshall, Illinois, this two-and-a-half story brick house is a local example of Italianate design. It has a limestone foundation, steeply pitched cross-gabled roofs, wide overhanging eaves with large brackets, tall arched windows, ornate chimneys and cast iron window hoods. In the 1890s the house was remodeled with Queen Anne and Classical Revival features, including large beveled and leaded glass windows, a five-sided bay, a wraparound porch with brick pillars, and quarter-sawn oak woodwork inside. Among ten Italianate houses in Marshall, it is the only brick one with an asymmetrical plan and no central hall, and the only one with cast iron window hoods. Its exterior has not been covered with synthetic materials, and its floor plan is nearly unchanged. Newer houses now surround the property, but the late nineteenth-century character remains intact.","period_of_significance":"c. 1864-c. 1898","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate; Classical Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in an excellent state of repair and still used as a single-family dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.691362-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/58/8918/28891858/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/97000382.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000382/3f1a19c385-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000382/3f1a19c385-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_L._Dulaney_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_L._Dulaney_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891858","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_L._Dulaney_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16833945"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/clark-county/dulaney-robert-l-house-97000382/"}
