The farm's work yards, fences, barns and sheds, along with pasture and timber lands, reflect early-20th-century corn, cotton and timber production in Northeast Georgia.","narrative":"This farm in rural Hart County, Georgia, covers 26.9 acres two miles northeast of Bowersville. It was once part of a 51-acre tract given to Lonnie and Lou Ellen Gulley, who established the farm around 1900. In 1909 they built a one-and-one-half-story Georgian cottage with a center hall, four principal rooms and a wrap-around porch. Lumber came from the family's own sawmill. The house had running water from a pressurized tank and gas lighting from a carbide generator. Behind it sit a main barn, crib barn, shed and smokehouse/salthouse, with pasture and timber beyond. The farm produced mostly corn and cotton, and Lonnie Gulley also harvested timber between 1900 and 1940. The property was recognized for the intact architecture of the house and for the working landscape and outbuildings that show small-scale agriculture in the early twentieth century. The house was rehabilitated in 1995, and one 1970s garage is the only noncontributing building.","period_of_significance":"c.1900-1940","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Other: Georgian cottage","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the main house was rehabilitated in 1995.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.797127-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/97000334.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208647","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/hart-county/gulley-gurley-farm-97000334/"}
