It also presents the house and store as locally important examples of late eighteenth or early nineteenth century stone buildings influenced by the Georgian and Federal styles, and as a locally significant group of rural vernacular architecture.","narrative":"Limestone house and store built by Jacob Isett beside Arch Spring in the northeast end of Sinking Valley, Blair County. The store was built in 1799 and the house is dated 1805 by a date stone under its north gable. The seven-bay, two-and-one-half-story house is a vernacular Georgian design with walls about two feet thick, and the store shows a strong Federal influence. Outbuildings date from about 1870, including a summer kitchen, barn, stable and implement shed. Isett established a house, saw mill, grist mill and store on the site beginning around 1788, and the complex grew into a small milling hamlet in the nineteenth century. The property is significant for its link to the settlement of Sinking Valley, which was once a frontier lead-mining area, and for its locally important stone and rural vernacular buildings. Fires in 1920 and 1965 altered parts of the house and store, though the exterior features remain largely original.","period_of_significance":"1799-1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Portions of the house and store were damaged by fires in 1920 and 1965; the house's north section was repaired, and the store's second floor and roof were repaired.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:36.691123-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/97000290.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000290/a59224f9b0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000290/a59224f9b0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ MD","credit_html":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jacob_Isett_House_and_Store,_Blair_County,_PA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71994535","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Isett_House_and_Store","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6118787"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/blair-county/isett-jacob-house-and-store-97000290/"}
