Designed in 1914 by architect Ward Wellington Ward for George Wilson, a lumber company officer and city alderman, it is Ward's only known apartment design. Its L-shaped plan, hipped roof, many gables and dormers, brick stringcourse, and rectilinear woodwork create an intricate facade that mixes Tudor Revival and Jacobean Revival features. Inside, the original plan survives, along with tile foyer floors, hardwood floors, sliding doors between rooms, and many original finishes. The building has been run mostly as private apartments, though the university used it as a women's dormitory from about 1955 to 1976. A large rear dormer added in 1982 is the most notable alteration. It was recognized for its architectural value as an intact, representative example of Ward's multiple-unit housing work in the city.","period_of_significance":"1914","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Arts and Crafts (with Tudor Revival and Jacobean Revival elements)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Building is in good condition inside and out apart from a few crumbling window sills, and is still used as multiple dwellings (twenty-two apartments).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.487475-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000093.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000093/83b66dabcf-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000093/83b66dabcf-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sherbrook_Apts.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sherbrook_Apts.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314027","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherbrook_Apartments_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7494742"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/sherbrook-apartments-97000093/"}
