It is Ward's only known stone design. The two-story, side-gabled house follows the Colonial Revival style, though its main facades are not symmetrical. Front-gabled wings hold a garage on the north and a library on the south. Leaded glass sidelights from the studio of Henry Keck flank the front door, and the original slate roof survives. Inside, the principal rooms keep their original plan and most finishes, including a Mercer tile fireplace with a Colonial Revival mantle and built-in library cabinets with leaded glass. Terraces behind the house mark former gardens sloping toward Hiawatha Lake. The house sits in the Roberts Estate subdivision, an intact collection of early twentieth century homes. It was listed for its architecture and its integrity as a representative work by Ward.","period_of_significance":"1919","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good on the exterior and interior; the property remains a single-family dwelling, with few significant changes since 1919.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.199761-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000086.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000086/e881fc790c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000086/e881fc790c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StowellHouse_2007_12_16pic1sm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StowellHouse_2007_12_16pic1sm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314045","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stowell_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7620700"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/stowell-house-97000086/"}
