Its form is unique among Ward's designs, and it was his 'Model Electric House' with an unusually extensive electrical system. It retains integrity in construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out.","narrative":"Built in 1922 at 301 Scottholm Boulevard in Syracuse, this two-story stucco house was designed by architect Ward Wellington Ward for Amon F. Sanderson, a contractor and developer who led the Scottholm Company. Its solid rectangular form, steeply pitched slate hipped roof and restrained ornament set it apart from most of Ward's other houses and recall French Renaissance design. Ward called it the Model Electric House because of its extensive wiring, which included a large number of outlets in each room, some with an unusual four-pronged design, and a tall original fuse box that remains in use in the basement. The house and its matching garage were reportedly used to promote the Scottholm development, though Sanderson sold the property within seventeen months. Inside, the plan and many original finishes survive, including a marble fireplace, panelling, pilasters, exposed beams and hardwood floors. It was listed for its architecture as an intact example of Ward's work in the city.","period_of_significance":"1922","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Arts and Crafts","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition inside and out, with some past water damage in a few rooms; still used as a single-family residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.407191-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000084.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000084/478ef14066-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000084/478ef14066-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SandersonHouse301pic1sm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SandersonHouse301pic1sm.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"12000407","name":"Scottholm Tract Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/scottholm-tract-historic-district-12000407/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314015","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanderson_House_(Scottholm_Boulevard,_Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7416160"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/sanderson-house-301-scottholm-blvd-97000084/"}
