It is the only known Ward residence in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. It retains integrity of construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out, including Keck stained glass and Mercer tile fireplaces.","narrative":"Built in 1919 at 176 Robineau Road in Syracuse, this two-and-one-half-story masonry house was designed by architect Ward Wellington Ward for Arthur White, a bank vice president. It sits on a hillside in the Roberts Estate subdivision and shows Italian Renaissance Revival character through its green glazed tile hipped roof, stucco walls, carved eave brackets and a portico with Corinthian columns. Inside, the original plan and many finishes survive, including stained glass from the Keck studio, two Mercer tile fireplaces and leaded glass doors. A rubble stone wall along Alanson Road also contributes. The house is the only known Ward design in the Italian Renaissance Revival mode. Later changes, such as a second story added over a side porch around 1957-58 under the Markert family, who bought it in 1937, have not undermined its integrity. It is listed for its architecture as a well-preserved example of Ward's Syracuse work.","period_of_significance":"1919","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Italian Renaissance; Arts and Crafts (Italian Renaissance Revival)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good on the exterior and interior, with the front porch columns undergoing repairs; still used as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.990755-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000083.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314053","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7994854"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/white-house-97000083/"}
