It keeps its Bungalow and Craftsman features and its original interior built-ins, including a rare surviving breakfast nook. The garage, with the remains of a vehicle turntable, also contributes.","narrative":"Built in 1915, this one-and-one-half-story Bungalow at 1035 Oak Street in Syracuse was designed by architect Ward Wellington Ward for Carl Ziegler, secretary and treasurer of a furniture manufacturing company. His father, Charles Ziegler, commissioned it as the southernmost of three Ward houses for family members along Oak Street, just south of Schiller Park. The L-shaped house combines bands of wide and narrow clapboard, imitation half-timbering, a rubble stone chimney, a low-pitched roof, and a Craftsman-style side porch. Inside, a Mercer tile fireplace with three-dimensional figures anchors the living room, and the original kitchen survives with its breakfast nook, cabinets, vegetable bin and laundry chute. A stucco-faced hollow tile garage, also by Ward, retains the outline of a floor turntable once used to turn vehicles around. The property was listed for its architecture, as an intact and representative example of Ward's residential work, with very few alterations since construction.","period_of_significance":"1915","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Bungalow/Craftsman","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition on the exterior and interior, with very few changes since 1915; still used as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.850274-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000082.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000082/961da29351-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000082/961da29351-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ZieglerHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ZieglerHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314041","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ziegler_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8071512"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/ziegler-house-97000082/"}
