Hoeffer.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is significant under Criterion C as an intact, representative example of Ward Wellington Ward's residential architecture in Syracuse. It retains its distinctive period characteristics and integrity of construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out. A nearby garage of about the same date is counted as a contributing building.","narrative":"This two-story masonry house at 2669 East Genesee Street in Syracuse was designed in 1923 by architect Ward Wellington Ward for Francis N. Hoeffer, listed in city directories as a manager. Built in the Tudor Revival style, it is clad in stucco, half-timbering and stone, with a jettied second story, a massive rubble stone chimney, a Tudor-arched front door in a cut stone frame, and leaded glass windows, some with insets from the Keck studio. Inside, the original plan survives, along with a Mercer tile hearth on a concrete fireplace and narrow oak floorboards. The house later served as an architect's office from 1966 to 1978, and later owners reversed some changes made during that period. A stucco-covered concrete block garage, probably not designed by Ward, contributes to the property. The house is valued as an intact, representative example of Ward's residential work in Syracuse, and it retains integrity in construction, form, materials and detailing.","period_of_significance":"1923-ca. 1930","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The house is in good condition inside and out and remains in use as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.224892-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000079.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000079/64badd423d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000079/64badd423d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HoefferHs1sm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HoefferHs1sm.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"12000407","name":"Scottholm Tract Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/scottholm-tract-historic-district-12000407/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314061","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoeffer_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5876405"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/hoeffer-house-97000079/"}
