The 1926 garage is compatible in style and counts as a contributing building.","narrative":"Kelly Residence is a two-and-one-half-story brick, stucco and half-timbered house at 2205 East Genesee Street in Syracuse. Ward Wellington Ward designed it in 1923 for John Kelly, a restaurateur. Kelly sold it in 1925 to Dr. Herman Weiskotten, dean of the College of Medicine at Syracuse University, whose family built the brick garage in 1926. The front-gabled house has a cross gable, casement windows, a brick-piered front porch and an English Cottage character. Inside, the original plan survives, including a large tiled foyer with stained glass, a living room fireplace with Mercer tiles depicting eight trades, and built-in bookcases with leaded glass doors. Changes since the 1920s are minor, such as a replaced stained glass door panel and sliding glass doors on the porch. The property was listed for its architecture as an intact, representative work among Ward's Syracuse houses, and both the house and garage contribute.","period_of_significance":"1923-1926","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Arts and Crafts (English Cottage exterior)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Remains a single dwelling in good exterior and interior condition, with few changes since the period of significance.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.173259-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000077.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000077/240f097301-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000077/240f097301-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KellyHouse_2frontandside_sm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KellyHouse_2frontandside_sm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314009","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6386087"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/kelly-house-97000077/"}
