It keeps its period characteristics and its integrity of construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out. Its distinctive features include the Tudor Revival design, original interior finishes, two Mercer tile fireplaces and a classically inspired front hall arch and staircase.","narrative":"Built in 1914 at 707 Danforth Street in Syracuse's old village of Salina, this two-story house of brick and stucco was designed by architect Ward Wellington Ward for John Gang, who ran a furniture and undertaking business. Its front-gabled form is marked by half-timbered gables, a brick bay with a Jacobean-style gable, a recessed front door under a Tudor arch, and windows with pointed arch lights. Inside, the front hall, living room and dining room keep original finishes, built-in cabinetry and glazed doors, along with two Mercer tile fireplaces, including one in the basement billiard room. A servants' buzzer system survives in part. Gang and his wife occupied the house until 1953, and six owners have lived there since. A tile garage was lost after a fire in 1981 and was demolished in 1982. The house was converted to a bed and breakfast in 1988. It was listed as a well-preserved example of Ward's Tudor Revival residential architecture.","period_of_significance":"1914","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"In good condition inside and out; converted to a bed and breakfast in 1988 and still used as one at the time of the form.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.833585-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000073.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000073/4aca486b52-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000073/4aca486b52-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GangHs2sm_2007_12_16.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GangHs2sm_2007_12_16.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314057","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5520919"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/gang-house-97000073/"}
