Its distinctive features include complex asymmetrical massing, many gables, Mercer tile fireplaces, leaded glass windows and original interior finishes. It retains integrity of construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out.","narrative":"Built in Syracuse's Berkeley Park subdivision, this two-story shingled house at 100 Circle Road was designed in 1914 by architect Ward Wellington Ward. Its small footprint hides unusually complex massing: a hipped roof reaching down to the first story on the south side, a large cross gable on the north, several dormers, recessed porches with fluted columns, and leaded glass near the entrance and in the dining room. Inside, the original plan survives, along with Mercer tile fireplaces, classical pilasters, turned stair spindles and original hardwood floors. Ward and his wife Maude Moyer Ward built it on speculation and never lived there. They rented it to tenants until 1918, and a 1915 newspaper advertisement for the subdivision featured the house. It was listed for its architecture as an intact, representative example of Ward's residential work in Syracuse. Later changes have been modest, including a converted side entrance, a remodelled kitchen and bathrooms, and a removed carport.","period_of_significance":"1914","architect_builder":"Ward, Ward Wellington","architectural_style":"Arts and Crafts","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition inside and out, and still used as a single-family dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.702163-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/97000069.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000069/9a6514dc2b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/97000069/9a6514dc2b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ward_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ward_House.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"02000055","name":"Berkeley Park Subdivision Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/berkeley-park-subdivision-historic-district-02000055/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314005","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward_House_(Syracuse,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7969024"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/onondaga-county/ward-house-97000069/"}
