The farmstead has buildings and objects from several periods of Loudoun County architecture. The main house has notable interior workmanship representing the Federal style and the twentieth-century Colonial Revival.","narrative":"Cleremont Farm occupies 107 acres of a larger rural property between Upperville and Paris in western Loudoun County, Virginia, in an area of horse and cattle farms. Its oldest building is a small stuccoed stone house reputedly built by settler William Rust in 1761. The main house was built in two stages between about 1820 and 1835, with a stone section and a later log or frame section, both stuccoed. Later additions came in the 1870s, 1940s and 1980s, including a Colonial Revival portico with paired Doric columns. Inside, the center-hall plan keeps much original Federal woodwork, including mantelpieces and a hall with curved walls. A stone kitchen, a tenant house, a carriage mount and extensive early twentieth-century stone walls also contribute. The farm was listed for architecture because it shows several periods of Loudoun County building in one well-preserved farmstead, with notable Federal-style interior craftsmanship.","period_of_significance":"1761-1942","architect_builder":"Dew, William (1940s renovations); the 1761 stone house is reputedly built by William Rust","architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal; Late 19th and Early 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"All contributing historic resources are described as in an excellent state of preservation.
