It reflects Bonham's turn-of-the-century growth and the role of rail transportation in that growth. It retains a high degree of integrity, including its 1918 reconstruction after a fire.","narrative":"Built in 1900 on the southern edge of Bonham's business district, this Texas & Pacific Railroad depot is a long one-story building of brick and sandstone with a three-story tower and a wide, bracketed hipped roof. It replaced a smaller wooden station from 1873 after townspeople asked the railroad for a facility suited to a county seat. Its east half handled freight and its west half served passengers. A fire in February 1918 destroyed much of the building, and reconstruction followed the original design, leaving two shades of brown brick in the walls. The depot is described as an exact duplicate of a Texas & Pacific depot in Weatherford. Passenger service ended in 1950 and freight service about eight years later. The railroad donated the building in 1986, and it now houses a county history museum, a chamber of commerce and an art association. It was listed for its architecture and its intact character.","period_of_significance":"1900-1918","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Romanesque; Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements: Craftsman","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a museum and offices; houses the Fannin County Museum of History, the Chamber of Commerce and an art association.
