The farmhouse was built in 1845 by Elias Curtis and sits in a farmstead with several outbuildings.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the farm is architecturally significant as an intact, representative example of mid-nineteenth century rural Greek Revival architecture. It is also significant for agriculture, reflecting the growth of the agrarian community in this part of Western New York. The farm has been owned by only two families since 1845 and remains in use.","narrative":"Curtis-Crumb Farm is a working farm on Curtis Road, about two miles northeast of Hilton in Monroe County, New York. Elias Curtis bought the 145-acre property in 1835, lived in a log cabin while clearing the land, and completed a front-gabled Greek Revival farmhouse in 1845. The house keeps its original six-over-six windows, shouldered architrave trim, panelled reveals beneath the windows and two-panel doors. In 1900 the roof was raised over the kitchen and dining area to create a second floor. The farmstead also includes a carriage house, hog pen, stone smokehouse, peg-and-post corn crib, a flagstone wall and a cedar split rail fence. The farm once produced grains, apples, pears and plums and kept horses, hogs and cattle. The Curtis family held it until 1950, when it passed to Howard and Dorothy Crumb. It was listed for its intact Greek Revival architecture and its record of nineteenth-century agriculture.","period_of_significance":"1845 - 1900","architect_builder":"Builder: Elias Curtis","architectural_style":"Mid-19th century: Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"The farm continues in use today, with outbuildings in fair to excellent condition; the original main barn burned in 1951 and was replaced by a more modern barn.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.494448-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96001509.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001509/63e67fc370-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001509/63e67fc370-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Blue Ice Eastman","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:307_Curtis_Rd_03.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Blue Ice Eastman</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:307_Curtis_Rd_03.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318788","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis-Crumb_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5195660"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/monroe-county/curtis-crumb-farm-96001509/"}
