It retains a high degree of integrity of setting, design, materials and craftsmanship. It is one of the finest of only ten surviving cobblestone buildings in Mendon.","narrative":"Built around 1832, this cobblestone farmhouse on Clover Street in Mendon is a large, two-story, five-bay, center-hall residence with a gable roof and walls of variously colored field cobbles laid in horizontal rows. Window openings have stone sills and soldier-coursed stone headers, and the slightly recessed front entrance has a segmentally arched fanlight with leaded glass and delicate tracery. Semi-elliptical lunettes mark the gable ends. The house is one of ten surviving cobblestone buildings in Mendon and is notable for its size and sophistication compared with others in the region. It is also a fine local example of Federal domestic design. Local research indicates it served as an inn in the mid-nineteenth century, a popular stopover between Canandaigua and Rochester for farmers taking grain to the mills. Although the farm has been reduced to two acres and its outbuildings are gone, the house retains its rural setting and good physical integrity.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1832","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic; Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; historic farm outbuildings have been lost and a modern wing and garage have been added at the rear.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.947516-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96001393.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001393/e203dd81be-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001393/e203dd81be-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Ammodramus","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Adsit_Cobblestone_Farmhouse_1.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ammodramus</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Adsit_Cobblestone_Farmhouse_1.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313571","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adsit_Cobblestone_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4685833"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/monroe-county/adsit-cobblestone-farmhouse-96001393/"}
