It is significant in commerce for the general store operated there from 1910 to 1935 along the Old Federal Road. The nomination cites Criteria A and C.","narrative":"Near Homer in Banks County, this farm property centers on a one-story, three-bay central hallway house built about 1906 by William Harvey Chambers and his wife Minnie. It has white clapboard walls, stuccoed end chimneys, a steep centered front gable and a rear kitchen ell. Beside it stands the former Nails Creek Church, moved to the site in 1910 and converted into a general store. Chambers sold household goods, fertilizer and farm supplies there until 1935, often accepting cotton as payment, and the Depression forced the store to close. He then turned to trucking produce and raising poultry. The site also holds a replacement well house with its original windlass and bucket, plus old farm equipment. The property was listed for its architecture, as a representative early twentieth-century Piedmont Georgia farmhouse, and for its commercial role along the Old Federal Road, where it is one of three surviving stores.","period_of_significance":"c. 1906-1946","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"OTHER/Central hallway","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"All buildings are described as in excellent condition; the house remains a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.086461-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/96001305.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001305/cb225a5312-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001305/cb225a5312-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Gwringle","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Chambers_House,_c._1906,_photographer_facing_north_(2).JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Gwringle</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Chambers_House,_c._1906,_photographer_facing_north_(2).JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93205832","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q125923071"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/banks-county/chambers-william-house-96001305/"}
