Local contractor Daniel S. Frazier built it in 1900.","why_significant":"The house is locally significant under Criterion C as a good example of a later Gable Front house in Vermont. It shows some Queen Anne detailing, including a smaller projecting front gable with pent roof, a porch with turned columns and spindlework, and a large entry room. Its simple, unadorned surfaces reflect a reaction against Victorian decorative exuberance.","narrative":"Built in 1900 on the west edge of Vermont, Illinois, this one-and-a-half story frame house follows the Gable Front type, with its ridgeline running perpendicular to West Third Street. It has a brick foundation, wood clapboard siding and an asphalt shingle roof. Queen Anne touches include a smaller projecting front gable with a pent roof and a porch with turned columns and spindlework. Inside, a side door opens into a large entry room rather than a hallway, much like the reception halls of Queen Anne houses, and the staircase is enclosed at the back. Local contractor Daniel S. Frazier built it for farmer Charles Emmor McCormick, who sold it in 1904. Later owners added two barns and raised livestock on the property. The porches on the east and north sides were enclosed in the 1920s, but the house has kept excellent integrity. It is significant locally as a good example of a later Gable Front house in the village.","period_of_significance":"1900","architect_builder":"Frazier, Daniel S., Builder","architectural_style":"Other: Gable Front; Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition with excellent integrity; still in use as a single dwelling with a small farmyard. Two small barns and a butchering shed from the 1940s are noncontributing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.486792-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/8/8911/28891108/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/96001284.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001284/5981369b5f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96001284/5981369b5f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Boscophotos","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McCormick_HouseImage.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Boscophotos</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McCormick_HouseImage.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891108","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Emmor_McCormick_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q24061460"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/fulton-county/mccormick-charles-emmor-house-96001284/"}
