It includes parts of the early French and Bulgarian neighborhoods of the East Side. It is one of four districts in the East Toledo multiple property listing.","narrative":"Yondota Historic District covers 137 acres of East Toledo, Ohio, in a densely built neighborhood that includes part of the original 1854 Yondota Plat, one of the earliest platted areas east of the Maumee River. Land that began as large farms and forest was subdivided after 1850 into residential and commercial areas. Of 1,530 buildings, 1,152 contribute to the district; most noncontributing ones are garages and other outbuildings added later. Most buildings are wood single-family houses, many of them vernacular gable-front and four-square types, with examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Stick Style and Bungalow design. Mature trees and fairly uniform setbacks mark the streets. Commercial buildings cluster along Starr and Euclid avenues, and several Gothic, Romanesque and Spanish/Romanesque churches stand among the houses. The district also reflects the early French settlement around St. Louis Church, known as Frenchtown, and a Bulgarian community of factory, railroad and dock workers.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and early 20th century American Movements: Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Italianate, Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in residential use; most buildings are single-family dwellings, with a count of 1,152 contributing and 378 noncontributing buildings, mostly later garages and outbuildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.710999-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/96000833.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"96000831","name":"East Toledo Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/east-toledo-historic-district-96000831/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985806","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/lucas-county/yondota-historic-district-96000833/"}
