It also reflects the continuing importance of agriculture in Cornwall into the early twentieth century and the revival of the Grange movement in that period.","narrative":"Built in 1904 on Route 32 in Cornwall, Orange County, this two-story frame building served as the hall of the Mountainville Grange, a farmers' organization founded locally in December 1902. It has a gable front, a stone foundation, clapboard and shingle walls, and a one-story porch with square Doric columns. Inside, a kitchen and dining hall occupy the first floor, while a meeting hall and stage fill the second. Original floor plan, hardwood floors, woodwork, doors and staircase survive. The hall hosted meetings on agricultural concerns and community events until the 1960s, then became an antiques store in the 1970s. Masons bought it in 1980 and continue to use it as a meeting hall. It was listed for its architecture as an intact local example of a traditional rural grange hall, and it also reflects the lasting role of farming in the area in the early twentieth century.","period_of_significance":"ca.1904","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early 20th Century Revivals / Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Now used as a Masonic hall (Cornwall Masonic Temple); a lodge letter describes it as restored and in very good condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.039283-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000557.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000557/1c522413ca-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000557/1c522413ca-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mountainville_Grange_Hall.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mountainville_Grange_Hall.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314133","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountainville_Grange_Hall","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6925740"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/mountainville-grange-hall-additional-documentation-96000557/"}
