It is also tied to the settlement of Stow and to the early industrial development of Gleasondale village through the Randall and Hale families, who owned local mills.","narrative":"On a low rise above the Assabet River in Stow, this 2 1/2-story clapboard house was begun around 1710 by Stephen Randall, one of the twelve original proprietors of the town. It began as a simple hall-and-parlor dwelling and was updated in the mid-18th century with Georgian detailing, including a deeply moulded front doorway with pilasters and entablature, raised-panel walls in the Parlor, and a central chimney serving six fireplace openings. A ca. 1760 ell and a ca. 1820 east wing enlarged the plan, and a barn and carriage house stand nearby. The property is also linked to the growth of Gleasondale, once called Randall Mills. Abraham Randall, a Revolutionary War officer and Stow selectman, owned the mills from 1776 until his death in 1815. Later Hale family members were also involved in the village's mill industry. The house was recognized for its architecture and for its role in the settlement and early industrial development of the area.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1710 - 1820","architect_builder":"Stephen Randall (builder)","architectural_style":"COLONIAL: Georgian","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; the main house has been modified with a ca. 1990 addition and 1970s window and clapboard replacements.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.559936-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/23/7959/63795923/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/96000277.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000277/c6d3c6fcfd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000277/c6d3c6fcfd-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StowMA_RandallHaleHomestead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StowMA_RandallHaleHomestead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63795923","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randall%E2%80%93Hale_Homestead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7291495"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/randall-hale-homestead-96000277/"}
