It holds sixteen houses with outbuildings and street objects, dating from about 1820 to 1920.","why_significant":"The district is argued to be significant for architecture as an intact, middle-class residential neighborhood. Its buildings show the growth of Mount Morris from an agrarian settlement through its canal and railroad years to its twentieth-century role as the area's commercial and civic center. They embody a wide range of styles, periods and construction methods.","narrative":"Murray Street in Mount Morris, Livingston County, holds a compact group of sixteen middle-class houses between Stanley and Eagle Streets, one block west of Main Street. Built between about 1820 and 1920, the frame and brick dwellings are similar in scale, spacing and setback, and are tied together by mature trees, continuous sidewalks and early twentieth-century street lamps. Styles run from Greek Revival and Italianate to Second Empire, Queen Anne and Foursquare, mostly in modest vernacular forms. Six contributing carriage houses and garages remain, along with a stone carriage step and a cast-iron hitching post. The house at 47 Murray Street, from 1872, was designed by Anna Rockfellow, an MIT graduate who studied in France; its mansard roof reflects French influence. Most of the surrounding historic neighborhood has lost integrity, so this block is one of only two small concentrations of intact dwellings. It was listed for its architecture and for illustrating the village's growth through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1820 - ca. 1920","architect_builder":"Anna Rockfellow (designer of 47 Murray Street)","architectural_style":"Greek Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Foursquare","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"All primary buildings are single-family residences, both historically and currently; no non-contributing primary buildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.579312-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000178.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000178/a301a1293d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000178/a301a1293d-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Murray_Street_Historic_District_Oct_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog (talk)</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Murray_Street_Historic_District_Oct_09.JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"03000718","name":"Letchworth State Park","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/letchworth-state-park-03000718/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313381","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murray_Street_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6939480"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/murray-street-historic-district-96000178/"}
