It keeps its original form, framing, floor plan and many interior features. It is also linked to Cornwall's growth after the Revolutionary War and to Isaac Cocks, an early resident and farmer.","narrative":"Built around 1795 on Old Pleasant Hill Road in Cornwall, Orange County, this two and one-half story farmhouse is a well-preserved example of Federal period design. The wood frame house has clapboard siding, a gable roof with exposed rafters, brick end chimneys and a fieldstone basement. Its five-bay north facade centers on a six-panel door with a transom, sidelights and Federal style trim, and a Palladian window marks the east gable. Inside, the center hall plan survives with its original staircase, wide board flooring, Federal mantels, period trim and hand-hewn beams with interlocking joints. The house is believed to have been built by Isaac Cocks, an early Cornwall farmer who owned a large farm in the area. It reflects the town's growth after the Revolutionary War and is considered a rare intact farmhouse from that era. A restoration in 1986-87 removed a later kitchen wing. The property was listed for its architectural value.","period_of_significance":"ca.1795","architect_builder":"Believed to have been built by Isaac Cocks, a farmer; no architect named","architectural_style":"Early Republic / Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single-family dwelling; restored in 1986-87, when a non-historic one-story kitchen wing was removed.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.363186-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000153.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000153/8765de1bc8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000153/8765de1bc8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ M.D.","credit_html":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ M.D., CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ISAAC_COCKS_HOUSE,_CORNWALL,_ORANGE_COUNTY_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314141","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Cocks_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6076155"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/cocks-isaac-house-96000153/"}
