It is described as a highly intact Stick style dwelling that keeps its original porches, windows, doors, mantels, staircase and woodwork. It is listed under Criterion C for architecture.","narrative":"Built around 1870 at 42 Clark Avenue in Cornwall-on-Hudson, this two and one-half-story frame house is a vernacular interpretation of the Stick style. It has clapboard siding, cross gables with lattice trim and diagonal braces, a two-story pyramidal-roofed pavilion over the west porch, and a two-story southern wing with a porte-cochere. Inside, the side-hall plan keeps large first-floor rooms, marble mantels, hardwood floors, four-panel doors with original hardware, an arched opening between the parlors and the original staircase with its polygonal balustrade. A board-and-batten barn/garage and a wooden gazebo also contribute. The land was once part of a larger holding owned by merchant L. N. Wyant and later associated with a Mr. Talbot, also a local merchant. Later subdivision and modern infill altered the surroundings, but this lot keeps its historic setting. The house was recognized as a well-preserved example of the town's Victorian dwellings of 1850 to 1900.","period_of_significance":"ca.1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian / Stick Style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single-family residence; the exterior and interior are described as highly intact with little alteration since construction.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.539062-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000151.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000151/e8ad6f0bf0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000151/e8ad6f0bf0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wyant-Talbot_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wyant-Talbot_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314191","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyant-Talbot_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8039471"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/wyant-talbot-house-96000151/"}
