It retains a high degree of exterior and interior integrity. It is also tied to the growth of local fruit farming by Oliver Brewster.","narrative":"Built about 1850, this clapboard farmhouse at 66 Willow Avenue in Cornwall sits on four acres, the last portion of the larger Brewster Farm. Oliver Brewster, a prominent fruit farmer, grew strawberries, raspberries and other small fruits, and his family was the first to bring the Niagara grape into the Hudson Valley. The house is two stories with five bays, a gable-front roof, wide eaves, pointed-arch attic windows and bracketed porches with cut-out trim. A one-story wing added about 1860 reflects its conversion to a summer boarding house, when Cornwall was a popular resort. Inside, marble mantels, pocket doors, hardwood floors, transoms over bedroom doors and a finished attic survive. Several outbuildings remain, including a Gothic-style carriage barn and a well-house. The house was listed for its architecture and for its links to the summer boarding trade and local agriculture, and it is regarded as one of few such farmhouse boarding houses in Cornwall to keep its integrity.","period_of_significance":"ca.1850 - ca.1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian / Gothic Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current use is single-family residence; the property includes a house, barn/caretaker's cottage, carriage house, shed, privy, well-house and a modern garage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.913101-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000149.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000149/6a198bf267-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000149/6a198bf267-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oliver_Brewster_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oliver_Brewster_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314171","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Brewster_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2020118"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/brewster-oliver-house-96000149/"}
