It also has added significance for its sympathetic 1920s Colonial Revival additions, outbuildings and landscape elements. It has long been regarded as one of the region's oldest and most distinguished settlement-era residences.","narrative":"Washingtonian Hall is a two-story, five-bay frame house on the north bank of the Susquehanna River in Endwell, Broome County. Amos Patterson, an early proprietor of the Boston Purchase, built it in 1799-1800 in the Federal style, with a Tuscan-Doric entrance porch, a Palladian window and a modillioned cornice. In 1830 it became an inn, and in 1842 it was named Washingtonian Hall in sympathy with the temperance movement. Judge Thomas MacClary bought it in 1924, moved it forty feet northwest onto a new foundation, and renovated it in the Colonial Revival taste. He added a sun porch, a porte cochere, a carriage barn, a horse barn, a pergola, a garden house, a brick driveway and a picket fence. The house is valued as an early and distinguished Federal style residence, and the 1920s changes are treated as part of its architectural history. The property covers about one acre.","period_of_significance":"1799 - 1925","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic / Federal; Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals / Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Current function is listed as single dwelling; the property is privately owned.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.376627-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/96000134.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000134/932cc687d7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000134/932cc687d7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Kenjny","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Washingtonian_Hall_Summer_2013.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenjny</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Washingtonian_Hall_Summer_2013.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75316618","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washingtonian_Hall","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7972596"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/broome-county/washingtonian-hall-96000134/"}
