It was built by Belford Lumber Company for Jesse Cooper.","why_significant":"The house is one of the few American Four Square buildings with Prairie School influences in the Georgetown area. Its large sweeping porch, four-square plan, high integrity and prominent location make it an important example of local architectural development. It is also tied to Jesse Cooper, a leading Georgetown businessman.","narrative":"Perched on a high bluff about 1.8 miles east of downtown Georgetown, this two-story wood frame house was completed in 1912 for Jesse Cooper and his wife Sara. Cooper contracted with Charles S. Belford of Belford Lumber Company to build it. The design follows the American Four Square form with Prairie School influences, with a hipped roof, weatherboard siding, grouped one-over-one windows and a wide shed-roof porch that wraps the south and west sides on stone piers with a stone balustrade. A porte cochere extends from the southeast corner. Two small additions at the rear are the only changes to the original form. Cooper, a Tennessee native, helped found the Williamson County Sun newspaper, the First National Bank of Georgetown and the Georgetown Oil Mill. The house is regarded as one of the best local examples of its type, retains a high degree of integrity, and was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1988.","period_of_significance":"1912","architect_builder":"Belford Lumber Company","architectural_style":"American Four Square with Prairie School influences","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and retaining its integrity; still a single dwelling, and in recent years it has served as a bed and breakfast.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.946426-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/3/9708/40970803/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/96000073.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000073/e3b6d198fc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/96000073/e3b6d198fc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Reedemilyf","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jesse_and_Sara_Cooper_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Reedemilyf</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jesse_and_Sara_Cooper_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970803","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002555"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/williamson-county/cooper-jesse-and-sara-house-96000073/"}
