Built in the mid-1880s as a non-denominational Sunday School, it was soon bought by Denmark Township for use as a township hall. Griggs Grange organized in 1897 with 18 members and used the building as its meeting place from the start, taking ownership in 1947. The gable-front structure sits on a stone foundation and has shiplap siding, cornerboards, a box cornice and scalloped hoodmolds over the entry and windows. Inside, a single open room keeps its original wainscoting, pressed metal ceiling and a raised platform at the rear. The Grange movement, begun nationally in 1867, promoted cooperative marketing and supported groups such as the county fair and the Farm Bureau. Locally the hall became a center of community life, known for sponsoring dances. It is considered among the most intact Grange halls in the county.","period_of_significance":"1897-1945","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"No Academic Style","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Still used as a meeting hall and described as an active Grange; the interior is essentially unaltered and the building retains a high degree of integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.336421-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/95001414.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001414/cb60363b5e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001414/cb60363b5e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Alfredtwo","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Griggs_Rd_Grange_02.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfredtwo</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Griggs_Rd_Grange_02.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986702","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griggs_Grange_No._1467","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5608972"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/ashtabula-county/griggs-grange-no-1467-95001414/"}
