Nearly all of its 1790s, 1830s and 1850s fabric survives, recording the evolution of local building practice. The surviving rural setting and farm ruins help show the town's development as an agrarian community.","narrative":"Set on a 2.55 acre site in northwest Montgomery, this farmhouse was begun about 1790 as a one and one-half story, three-bay frame house with a side-hall plan, built into a hillside. Later owners doubled its length about 1830 with a Greek Revival addition and added a saltbox lean-to about 1850, without remodeling the older rooms. As a result, original fireplaces, bake ovens, moldings, doors, hardware and most window sash survive. The house went without modern plumbing, central heat, electricity or telephone until the late 1970s, when it was restored after a long period of vacancy. Also on the property are a nineteenth century woodshed/privy and the stone ruins of a smokehouse, corncrib, cider mill and barn. The house was listed for its architecture: it shows how Federal and Greek Revival styles were absorbed into local building tradition, and it is a rare unaltered survivor of its type in the town.","period_of_significance":"ca.1790 - ca.1850","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal; Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Restored in the late 1970s after standing closed and unoccupied for about twenty years; currently in use as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.083017-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/95001286.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001286/b7632bd705-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001286/b7632bd705-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"The original uploader was Daniel Case at English Wikipedia.","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Abraham_Dickerson_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">The original uploader was Daniel Case at English Wikipedia.</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Abraham_Dickerson_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320624","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Dickerson_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4668833"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/dickerson-abraham-farmhouse-95001286/"}
