It is also a fine local example of Gothic Revival domestic architecture. The intact farm and its barns and sheds illustrate typical farm economics and building technology in the Genesee region of western New York.","narrative":"On Canandaigua Road in the rural southwest corner of Wayne County, a 234-acre farm centers on a cobblestone farmhouse finished in 1850. The one-and-one-half-story house has a five-bay main block with a side ell, a fieldstone foundation, limestone quoins and trim, and Gothic-arched front windows beneath a prominent cross-gable. Its walls use remarkably even, lake-washed red cobblestones, laid in horizontal courses on the front and in herringbone patterns on the north side and the side ell. Four farm buildings from about 1930 stand with the house: a large dairy barn, a smaller storage barn, a large shed, and a carriage barn and machine shed. The house is one of six surviving cobblestone buildings in Macedon and one of roughly 170 in Wayne County, where the type is most concentrated in the state. It was recognized for its architecture and for illustrating the farming heritage of the Genesee region of western New York.","period_of_significance":"1850-ca. 1930","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century; Gothic Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Historic and current function is a single dwelling; much of the land is still actively farmed and most interior features survive intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.637356-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/95001281.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001281/518ace4f29-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95001281/518ace4f29-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Dmadeo","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:J_and_E_Baker_Cobblestone_Farmstead,_Macedon,_NY.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Dmadeo</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:J_and_E_Baker_Cobblestone_Farmstead,_Macedon,_NY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322886","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._and_E._Baker_Cobblestone_Farmstead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6107507"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/wayne-county/baker-j-and-e-cobblestone-farmstead-95001281/"}
