It was moved twice and now stands about 750 feet west of its original site.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is significant under Criterion A for its role in transportation and the growth of the Outville community after the railroad arrived. Under Criterion C it is a good example of a Class B combination depot in the Queen Anne/Stick Style. The form states the building is about ninety percent intact.","narrative":"This small wooden railroad depot on Outville Road in Pataskala, Ohio, combined a waiting room, an agent's office and a freight room under one roof. Built probably in the 1870s or 1880s beside the Central Ohio Railroad, later the Baltimore and Ohio, it helped turn a crossing known as Kirkersville Station into the village of Outville. The railroad carried farm goods and implements, mail and passengers, and the area grew to include a general store, hotel, sawmill and grain company. Passenger service ended in 1940, and the depot was sold and moved to a farm in 1963. It returned to Outville in 1993, about 750 feet west of its first site. Its Queen Anne/Stick Style details include deep roof overhangs with triangular knee braces, banded wood siding, slate roofing and twelve-over-one windows. The building is vacant, and the township plans to restore it and display it to the public.","period_of_significance":"1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne/Stick","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Vacant and awaiting restoration; restoration drawings and specifications were being prepared.
