It also marks the role of the railroad in connecting Woodstock to Atlanta and the wider country, carrying agricultural freight and passengers.","narrative":"Built in 1912 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, this one-story wood-frame depot sits beside the tracks in downtown Woodstock, Georgia. It follows a standard railroad pattern, with a passenger and ticketing area on the south and a freight area on the north, shown in a hipped roof over one section and a gabled roof over the other. Red clay tile roofing, wide eaves with carved brackets, banded wood siding, original freight doors and a surviving ticket window remain. Two waiting rooms reflected the racial divisions of the era. The depot handled cotton, rope and other farm products, and carried commuting students, workers and departing soldiers, linking the small town to Atlanta. Passenger service ended in 1949. Later changes include a restroom added in 1967 and repaneling of the freight area in 1987. It is now city-owned and serves as a community meeting place. It was recognized for its architecture and its role in local transportation history.","period_of_significance":"1912-1944","architect_builder":"Unknown (built by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad)","architectural_style":"Other; typical Victorian-era North Georgia railroad depot","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Owned by the City of Woodstock on land leased from the railroad; used as a community meeting place and most recently as city hall, police and fire station.
