It is also the center of county government since 1895 and a Depression-era public works project funded partly by the PWA.","narrative":"Fannin County's courthouse in Blue Ridge is a two-story brick building with a basement, completed in 1937 after fire destroyed the previous courthouse in July 1936. It sits on a hill at West Main and Summit Streets. A pedimented portico with four plain round columns marks the symmetrical front, and the roof is raised-seam metal. Inside, the courtroom keeps its original light fixtures, pews and classical detailing. Atlanta architects Edwards & Sayward designed it with Robert B. Logan Associates, and Beers-Collins Construction built it for about $50,000. Insurance money covered $20,000, and roughly 45 percent came from the Public Works Administration, a New Deal program. It is the county's third courthouse and stands where county government has been centered since the seat moved from Morganton to Blue Ridge in 1895. It is valued as an intact, restrained example of 1930s Neoclassical design and as a Depression-era public works project. A 1972 sheriff's building behind it is noncontributing.","period_of_significance":"1937-1945","architect_builder":"1937 Courthouse - Edwards & Sayward and Robert B.
