It is one of the earliest surviving buildings in South Dallas below Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and dates to the first years of South Park Addition's development. It also illustrates the working-class housing of Dallas's early industrial growth.","narrative":"Built around 1901 at 2718 Pennsylvania Street, this one-story wood-frame house sits on a 50-by-130-foot lot in the South Park neighborhood of South Dallas. It has a T-shaped plan, an intersecting gabled roof, wood drop siding, and a U-shaped front porch with Doric columns. Rooms added at the rear around 1920 are considered part of the house's architectural evolution. The house is one of the earliest surviving buildings in South Dallas south of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and predates the bungalows that later filled the South Park Addition. Its first known resident, James P. Rush, worked as a trackman and lived there until 1906. Charles C. Crabb, a driver for The Texas Company, bought it in 1916 and lived there through 1941. Like most neighbors, these residents were working-class. The house was listed as a rare, largely intact example of early vernacular suburban housing in a area where few T-plan houses remain.","period_of_significance":"c. 1901","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"OTHER: T-plan (vernacular)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in good and stable condition; still used as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.766414-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/78/9686/40968678/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/95000321.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968678","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110001829"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/dallas-county/rush-crabb-house-95000321/"}
