It retains its period characteristics and integrity of construction, form, materials and detailing inside and out. Most similar early cottages in the village have been heavily altered, which makes this one an important representative of the type.","narrative":"Standing on West Cayuga Street in Moravia, this one-and-one-half-story frame house with a long one-story rear wing was probably built between 1810 and 1830. It is a vernacular version of Federal style architecture, with a stone foundation, clapboard siding, an asphalt shingle roof, an open bed pediment in the gable end and a four-light transom over the front door. Inside, it keeps a side hall plan, wide plank floors, simple finishes and first-floor joists made of logs squared on their upper surfaces. A porch was added about 1890, and a few windows and sash have changed, but these alterations do not greatly affect its integrity. The house was listed for its architecture. Moravia's early frame mechanics' cottages built between 1810 and 1860 have mostly been extensively altered, so this house is a rare, well-preserved example of that early housing type in the village. It remains a single-family residence.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1810-1830","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal (vernacular interpretation)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently in use as a single dwelling, the same as its historic function.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.429791-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/95000103.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000103/a8264ac075-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000103/a8264ac075-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_21_West_Cayuga_Street_10_32_53_777000.jpeg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_21_West_Cayuga_Street_10_32_53_777000.jpeg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312172","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_21_West_Cayuga_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914123"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/cayuga-county/house-at-21-west-cayuga-street-95000103/"}
