It retains its exterior and interior integrity and is described as one of the most elaborately detailed frame Italianate residences in the village.","narrative":"Located opposite the Moravia Central School, a few blocks south of the village business district, this two-story frame house was probably built between 1884 and 1887. Deed records show Sarah A. Rolls bought the lot for $400 and sold it about two and a half years later for $2,200, which suggests she built the house. Nathan P. Darby, a capitalist, then bought it, and his family kept it until 1943. The house is a notable Italianate design with an irregular plan, a low-pitched hipped roof, wide eaves with paired brackets, and one-over-one windows under heavy rope hood moldings. A full-width porch has turned and jigsaw-cut ornament, and a two-story bay window projects from the north side. The interior keeps its original floor plan and finishes. It was listed for its architectural value as one of the most elaborately detailed frame Italianate homes in Moravia.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1885","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; the interior retains its historic floor plan and finishes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.267065-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/95000065.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000065/714373cbdc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000065/714373cbdc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Doncram","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_46_South_Main_Street,_Moravia,_New_York.jpeg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doncram</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_46_South_Main_Street,_Moravia,_New_York.jpeg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312188","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_46_South_Main_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914338"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/cayuga-county/house-at-46-south-main-street-95000065/"}
